Alama village pop-up - submission

Streets Alive Glen Eira (SAGE) is fully supportive of the proposed Alma Village Pop-Up Park trial, as it presents a much-needed opportunity to address the lack of open space in Caulfield North while enhancing the vibrancy of the neighbourhood. As such we have written a submission to council.

SAGE shares concerns about the absence of bike lanes in the current proposal, emphasising the importance of safe cycling infrastructure to promote active transportation. We proposed reconsidering the inclusion of bike lanes within the pop-up park, citing the popularity of cycling along Orrong Crescent.

We also raised concerns about the proposed use of synthetic grass, advocating for the visually appealing and cost-effective alternative of a painted road surface, as seen in Fitzroy's Rose Street.

Additionally, we highlight the necessity of including an additional ramp on the south-western footpath for improved accessibility and safety, especially for individuals with mobility challenges.

SAGE endorses the Alma Village Pop-Up Park trial, aligned with the council's objectives of creating vibrant spaces, supporting local businesses, and meeting the community's open space needs. We believe that this initiative will foster community engagement and significantly enhance the overall quality of life in Glen Eira.
